About The Safari

Seeing a huge herd of elephants crossing a river, African wild dogs feasting on a kill or a breathtaking African sunset are experiences that are hard to put into words or to capture in a photograph. They are experiences that have to be witnessed firsthand.

I heard a description of Africa that sums it up in one short sentence, “It feels like God visits everywhere else but lives in Africa”. The beauty of this country will take your breath away.

The Kruger National Park has a rich history that can be experienced as you traverse the plains of the breathtaking game reserve. During you 4-day Eco Camp Safari you will spend your days exploring one of the world’s great natural wonders. The story of the Kruger National Park is made up of the tales and the art of the majestic San people and the footprints of prehistoric man.

In 1884, it was brought to the attention of President Paul Kruger that the wildlife of the Lowveld was in grave danger of extinction; this was due to the presence of hundreds of Europeans who had flocked to the region to hunt and trade animal skins and horns. Kruger approached the Transvaal parliament with a proposal to establish a protected area in the Lowveld for wildlife; his request was granted and in 1898 and the Lowveld was proclaimed the Sabie Game Reserve. In 1926, the Sabie Game Reserve was merged with the Shingwedzi Game Reserve; the result was the Kruger National Park.

Day 1

Private Transfer to Tydon Eco Camp

This unique safari adventure begins with collection from Johannesburg or at one of our designated pick up points.

Heading towards the world-famous Greater Kruger Park in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, we leave the bustling city of Johannesburg behind.

We travel northeast to Tydon Eco Camp, situated in a tranquil undisturbed bush setting bordering the Sabi Sand Game Reserve and a mere 10-minute drive to the entrance of the Kruger National Park.

The first thing that will strike you when settling into your tent at Tydon Eco Camp is the absolute silence. You will have a chance to familiarize yourself with the camp, before sundowners will be served by the swimming pool or in the open-air boma around a welcoming campfire. A hearty African dinner will be served before you head out on your first evening game drive into the legendary Kruger National Park.

There is always the opportunity of viewing hunting predators whilst on a night drive, but night drives mostly provide an opportunity to see animals that are rarely seen during the day time such as porcupines, civets, genets and a host of bats and nocturnal birds.

There is also something magical about stopping somewhere in the bush, switching off the vehicle and listening to the night whilst gazing at the stars of the African night sky.

After an exciting first day in the African bushveld retiring to the comfort of your warm bed in your safari-style tent will be most welcomed.

Day 2

Full Day Kruger National Park Game Drive

Rise and shine early on your second day of your safari, to be greeted by the glowing hues of the untamed African bush bathed in the soft morning light. Breakfast is a delectable affair and will get you going for your busy day ahead.

Our experienced guides will take you into Kruger National Park for a full day of game viewing. Our game viewing drive takes us in search of Africa’s Big Five animals and an abundance of other wild animals.

Your guide will find the perfect location to stop and take a break for lunch. Sit, relax and enjoy your lunch under some lofty trees along the river bank or at a picnic spot, at one of Kruger’s famous camps. Most of the camps in The Kruger National Park have shops where snacks, curios and other items can be purchased.

After you have spent some time stretching your legs we head back out into the bushveld for the remainder of the afternoon. These game drives in open safari vehicles enable you to experience the African bush up close, getting back to nature and gaining insight into Kruger National Park’s fascinating inhabitants and habitats.

After a long but rewarding day out in the Kruger National Park, you will be welcomed back to Tydon Eco Camp by some cold beverages in the outdoor boma or swimming pool. Sit back, relax and enjoy some leisure time before a delicious African dinner will be served.

There is a traditional Afrikaans saying here in South Africa “magies vol, ogies toe” meaning “tummies full, eyes closed”. At the end of your first full day on safari there is nothing better than retreating to your safari-style tented-room for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Day 3

Full Day Kruger National Park Game Drive

Every morning an impala wakes up knowing that it must outrun the fastest lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning a lion wakes up knowing that it must outrun the slowest impala or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a lion or an impala, when the sun comes up in Africa you must wake up running.

Fortunately for you this is not the case. After a relatively early wakeup you will sit down to a leisurely breakfast, before heading out on your second full day of your safari adventure in the Kruger National Park.

Game drives are exciting and unpredictable. Whether it is serenely watching a herd of giraffe walking across the African planes or watching from the edge of your seat a warthog family running for their lives as a pride of lion investigate their den, you never know what the African bush has install for you each day.

A lunch break will be taken at one of the many choices of camps inside the Kruger National Park. This gives you the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs, do some shopping at one of the curio shops and have a relaxing lunch in a shady spot.

After lunch, you will spend the afternoon back out in the African bush hopefully ticking off all the animals on your checklist. The great thing about the Kruger National Park is that sometimes you see animals that you didn’t even know to put on your checklist.

Finally, back to camp. It has been a long day and a dip in the swimming pool and a hot meal is waiting for you back at base. Bush meals are hearty and of course, it helps that you are sitting under the African night sky, studded with stars, listening to the mesmerizing sounds of the bush.

After an evening of bush tales from the guides around the campfire, zipping yourself up in your cozy tent is most welcomed. Always be sure to sleep with “one ear to the ground” as you might get lucky enough to hear the exhilarating sound of a lion roaring in the middle of the night.

Day 4

Private Transfer to OR Tambo International Airport

On our final day, we say goodbye to Tydon Eco Camp and drive back to Johannesburg via the scenic Panorama Route.

This journey takes you through breath-taking mountain scenery and quaint towns in one of South Africa’s most beautiful regions. Highlights of the scenic Panorama Route include God’s Window, Lisbon Falls and Graskop.

Estimated time of arrival in Johannesburg is around 17:00. This brings your incredible 4-day Eco Camp Safari to an end, taking the special memories of your unforgettable safari home with you.

A crackling campfire and flickering lanterns set the mood for dinner under the African skies, while the sounds of nocturnal animals calling in the distance can often be heard. In true safari style we all eat together in the boma.

Traditional South African food is generally cooked over an open fire or in a three-legged pot (or potjie), so meat tends to be served in either stewed or grilled form. You can purchase ice-cold beverages or a bottle of fine South African wine to complement your evening meal.
