Day 1

Private Transfer to Luxury Tented Tydon Bush Camp

This exclusive 5 Day Sabi Sand Safari begins with your collection from OR Tambo International Airport/ Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport/ Skukuza Airport or from your pre-tour hotel in one of our designated pick up zones.

We leave the bustling city of Johannesburg, in an air-conditioned, comfortable vehicle, travelling north-east to Tydon Bush Camp, which is situated inside the exclusive Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is not open to the general public which is what gives this reserve its exclusivity. Along with the added benefit of being able to track the animals off road resulting in close range wildlife encounters. All of our game drives in Sabi Sand Game Reserve are conducted in open 4X4 safari vehicles.

Upon arrival at Tydon Bush Camp you will have time to freshen up after your long journey, before adventuring out on potentially your very first African safari! Sabi Sands Game Reserve is known best for its exceptional leopard sightings.

After our sunset to evening game drive we make our way back to Tydon Bush Camp, where a warm and inviting campfire welcomes you to the boma area.

Pre-dinner drinks will be served around the campfire giving you the perfect opportunity to chat about your first safari experience. Where after a delicious South African homestyle dinner will be served. The evening meal is served either in the outdoor boma under the starry skies, or in the thatch-covered dining area.

There is a traditional Afrikaans saying here in South Africa “magies vol, ogies toe” meaning “tummies full, eyes closed”. At the end of your first day on safari in Sabi Sand Game Reserve there is nothing better than retreating to your luxury tented-room for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Day 2

Sabi Sand Game Drives

The second day of our Sabi Sand safari starts with an early rise. The break of day in Africa is something not to be missed. Begin the day with a fresh coffee or tea, fruit and biscuits, served in the camp’s dining area surrounded by indigenous foliage.

We then embark into the wilderness of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve in search of the allusive Big Five, as well as the wealth of other wild animals found in this exclusive South African game reserve.

After a morning out exploring the African bush, we return to Tydon Bush Camp where a scrumptious mid-morning breakfast is served.

You will now have some leisure time at Tydon Bush Camp. Nestle down with a good book in your air-conditioned tent or on the viewing deck, enjoying the tranquil bush setting. Keeping your eyes open will be the only challenge of this part of the day.

A light-lunch is served in the dining area of Tydon Bush Camp around 14:00.

Around 15:30/16:00 we embark on an afternoon game drive in Sabi Sand Game Reserve. These game drives in open safari vehicles enable you to experience the African bush up close, allowing you to gain insight into Greater Kruger’s fascinating inhabitants and ecosystems.

Through years of experience our guides take you on the best game viewing routes, that greatly increase the likelihood of close up animal encounters. Questions are encouraged on our 4X4 game drives and our skilled guides will happily share their knowledge with you. It is important to us that you learn as much as possible about this exclusive game reserve and its wildlife on our guided safaris.

Our guide will find a picturesque spot to stop for sundowners and snacks in amongst the bushveld in Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Back at camp drinks and dinner are served in the outdoor boma, around the inviting campfire. The remainder of the evening is free for you to put your feet up and share tales from the bush, under the twinkling night sky.

Day 3

Sabi Sand Game Drives

Early mornings are one of the best times for game viewing as the animals enjoy moving around before the harsh African sun starts blazing.

After a refreshing tea or coffee, fruit and biscuits in the dining area, we set off on a morning game drive in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Our experienced guides know a great deal about the Sabi Sand bushveld and its wildlife, proving you with detailed information about the intriguing local fauna and flora.

The Sabi Sands Game Reserve is famous for its world-class game viewing possibilities, including outstanding sightings of lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopards.

In the Sabi Sand Game Reserve we are allowed to venture off the roads into the bushveld, providing you with the opportunity to take great close up photographs of your wildlife encounters, ones that you will cherish forever.

Upon your return to Tydon Bush Camp you will be greeted by the aromas of a delicious breakfast that awaits you. Afterwards there is some free time to relax and recharge your batteries, during the hottest part of the day.

A light lunch is served around 14:00 in the main dining area.

In the afternoon, we adventure out into the Sabi Sand Game Reserve taking in all the sights and sounds of the African bush. The area is well known for the Big Five but there are many other species of animals and birds that are just as beautiful and intriguing. Drinks and snacks will be served on an open plain in the bushveld giving you the perfect opportunity to watch the sunset.

After an eventful day in the bush we return to camp where pre-dinner drinks will be served. Tuck into a hearty dinner around the campfire, whilst listening to tales from our guides about their experiences in the African bush.

Retire to your luxury tent where a warm cosy bed awaits you. Be sure to keep an ear open for the animal calls during the night. There is something about the low whooping of a hyena as it builds itself up to a ghostly wail that can make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up or the majestic roar of a lion that cuts through the silent African night and hits you straight in the soul.

Day 4

Sabi Sand Game Walk and Drive

The excitement of partaking in a bush walk will have you up nice and early.

After a refreshing cup of tea or coffee, fruit and biscuits at camp, we set off on a morning game viewing walk in Sabi Sand Reserve. Our guides provide you with insightful information about the incredible plants and animals of the area, while you explore Sabi Sand on foot. Walking through this Big Five game reserve is a truly unique safari adventure!

The exhilarating guided walk takes you deep into the bush, where chances of wildlife encounters include, coming face-to-face with a pride of lion, a herd of elephants and other animal species – an experience that is sure to get your adrenaline levels up.

The game walk in Sabi Sand is ideal for becoming aware of the finer details of the African bushveld and its variety of creatures, big and small. We spend time tracking wild animals and getting to know the wilderness more intimately than is possible on game viewing drives.

After all that walking a well-deserved hearty mid-morning breakfast is served upon your arrival back at Tydon Bush Camp.

Spend some time relaxing and resting at camp during the heat of the day.

A fresh lunch is served in the dining area of the camp around 14:00. In the afternoon, we set off into the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Our sunset to evening game viewing drive is a great opportunity to spot some of the nocturnal wildlife found in the area.

Returning to camp after sunset, we find chilled beverages waiting in the boma, where the campfire is already going. Share a juicy meal in the boma under the stars, or in the dining area. Then sit back and take in the night sounds of the untamed bush.

Day 5

Private Transfer from Tydon Bush Camp to Chosen Destination

On your day of departure there will be no early rise call. After a leisurely breakfast served in the dining area we bid farewell to Tydon Bush Camp and drive back to either OR Tambo International Airport/ Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport/ Skukuza Airport or to your post-tour hotel in one of our designated drop off zones.

We travel back to Johannesburg/Nelspruit via the scenic Panorama Route. This journey takes you through breath-taking mountain scenery and quaint towns in one of South Africa’s most beautiful regions. Highlights of the scenic Panorama Route include God’s Window, Lisbon Falls and Graskop.

Estimated time of arrival at Nelspruit (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport) is +/- 12:00, or in Johannesburg around 17:00. This brings your incredible Sabi Sand Safari to an end, taking the special memories of your unforgettable safari at Tydon Bush Camp home with you.

Safari Activities

The expression “The early bird catches the worm” rings very true when on safari. The early morning hours are ideal for game viewing, as this is when many animals are most active. Each morning you will be woken up before first light by your guide, and after a quick cup of tea or coffee and light snack, you embark on your morning game viewing activity.

Spend some time relaxing and resting at camp during the heat of the day. Nestling down with a good book in your air-conditioned tent, playing board games or taking a siesta are needed after an early rise.

As the intense heat of the day cools, your afternoon safari drive will see you witness the inhabitants of the bush as they become restless and move out from the shade of the trees in search of water and food. Watch in awe as the sky turns to the sensational vibrant reds, gold’s and oranges, typical of an African sunset which majestically reflects its rays over rivers, natural waterholes and trickling streams.

For the more adventurous at heart the ultimate adventure awaits you. African wilderness on foot! An early morning bush walk with an armed ranger will see you hopefully encounter wildlife animals and birds while exploring the African bush as we venture into the unknown with the opportunity to face some of the mysteries of nature and to follow animal tracks.

Safari Meals

We consider homely South African cuisine to be an essential part of the Tydon African Safaris experience. The meals that we serve is a reflection of real South African food. We do cater for vegetarians.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served after the early morning game drive or before departure on your last day. There is a selection of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, freshly baked muffins and flapjacks/crumpets. A traditional cooked breakfast buffet is also on offer. Fresh fruit juice is supplied.

Lunch

Lunchtime is during the heat of the day therefore, we prepare refreshing, light meals that satisfy the taste buds. Alongside a freshly made meal, there will be a selection of fresh salads and fruits on offer.

A variety of fresh sandwiches, fresh salads, fruits and fruit salads will be served. Ice-cold beverages and fruit juices are available for purchase.

Dinner

A crackling campfire and flickering lanterns set the mood for dinner under the African skies, while the sounds of nocturnal animals calling in the distance can often be heard. In true safari style we all eat together around the boma.

Traditional South African food is generally cooked over an open fire or in a three-legged pot (or potjie), so meat tends to be served in either stewed or grilled form. We have a selection of the traditional meals which include a starch along with plenty of vegetables and side salads. You can purchase ice-cold beverages or a bottle of fine South African wine to complement your evening meal.
